Musing about Online Party opportunities

Ok I have been musing about offering Online Parties. I am still flushing out the details but it will be an opportunity to earn free and discounted products for the hostess and a scent of the month discount for all of the participants.

Hostess advantages:

No Clean Up

No cooking or serving snacks

Inclusion of out of town guests

Free and reduced price products

Thinking, thinking, and thinking. That is what musing is all about. Looking for some feedback. Holla back at your girl and let me know what you think.

Peace,

Rovenea (Robbin) Turner

Mo' Hair "Shikakai" Infused Oil

Shikakai called" Fruit for the hair" another Ayuvedic herb with purported properties to gently cleanse the hair without stripping the hair of its natural oils. It helps promote hair growth and strengthens the hair roots.

A great alternative to harsh high PH shampoos. Look for Mo' Hair products incorporating this oil or powder.

Peace,

Rovenea (Robbin) Turner

Another great oil from India. It is used within the Ayuvedic system to treat various skin disorders. This oil is cold pressed from the seeds of the Ponga Tree. It is said to assist with the following conditions:

Eczema

Psoriasis

Leprosy

Acne

Herpes

Rosacia

Leucoderma

Keloid Scars

Karanja Oil is said to promote wound healing and it is nematicidal, anti parasidic, anti fungal, bactericide, insecticidal, antiseptic, and helps treat skin ulcers and dandruff. It also has a high content of triglycerides.

I use Karanja oil to superfat all of my Artisan Made Soaps, my Mo' Hair "Get That Itch" products, and my Herbal Rescue products. I also use it on my beagle "Sido" it greatly reduces his itching....my puppy has a serious skin allergy and this mixed with coconut oil greatly reduces his scratching. Look for "Sido Puppy Products" soon.

Peace,

Rovenea (Robbin) Turner

Mo' Hair infusion... Amla Oil

As promised here is the information on Amla Oil. I purchased the Amla powder a while ago with the intention of adding to one of my Mo' Hair formulations. Well it never happened. Low and behold I found it in my supplies the other day and I infused the Amla powder in Coconut Oil. I am eagerly anticipating it to finish infusing so I can use it in a new Mo' Hair product.

What is Amla Oil all about? It is commonally called Indian Gooseberry. Amla contains:

Amino Acids

Tannins

Bioflavoniods

Trace MInerals

Beneficial Phytonutrients

Amla Oil is an antioxidant, anti inflammatory, and a natural source of vitamin C. Amla Oil strengthens hair follicals therefore strengthening the hair from the roots. It also assists with premature greying.

I am so excited to use this Ayuvedic ingredient in my Mo' Hair formulations.

My next ingredient will be Karanja Oil.

Peace,

Rovenena (Robbin ) Turner

Let's talk hair

I know I am supposed to talk about Amla Oil and I haven't forgot. While I was preparing to write this my mind diverted to thoughts about Hair and the the different kinds of hair. From 1 to 4b. That is right.... from naturally straight to excessively kinky.

In beauty school we are taught hair is hair and after 26 years I remain of the mind hair is not hair but it is kissing cousins. What had me thinking about hair today is the on going debate between the natural hair wearers and the relaxed hair wearers.

The diversity of hair within the community of women of color is vast and not a new thing. We have been whipped by the critique of our hair since we were forced on these shores, along with being color struck, these mindsets remain in our communities.

just like the hues of our skin we have different kinds of hair. No one kind is better than the next.

I am so tired of the natural hair wearers thinking they are better than the relax hair wearers and visa versa. Clean healthy hair is what is best. We need to celebrate the diversity of our hair. It is nothing we can do to hair to make it look like naturally straight hair. Take a close look and know the truth. All of the relaxers, flat irons, or straightening combs cannot obtain the texture or feel of naturally straight hair. Therefore, embrace the uniqueness of our hair. Braiding, twisting, or natural hair do's are an alternative and that means just that ...another choice in the myriad of hair styles we can choose from.

This subject is huge and this is a brief reflection of my thoughts. It is also my aim to formulate products that embrace the full spectrum of hair types.

Look for the information on Amla Oil tomorrow.

Peace,

Rovenea (Robbin) Turner

Mo' Hair

I don't know how many of you remember when you went to the hair dresser and you finished getting your hair done ....you said "thank....." but were cut off by the stylist and she told you to say Mo' Hair? Well that is where I got the name for my Hair Product Line. Mo' Hair came from that old adage.

Growing up the child of a Hair Dresser and later attending Cosmotolgy school myself. I was always surrounded by hair products. I loved the atmosphere of the "Shop". All of the different people and the things going on in their lives was so interesting to me. It was there I had my earliest education in Human Services watching and listening to my Mom interact with her customers. Not only in the "Shop" but accompanying her to the hospitals to visit customers who were sick.

In Cosmotology school I was always interested in product development but didn't have a clue where to begin. I would look at the pictures of celebrities and wonder which products their stylist used to get that particular look. I knew it wasn't the products we were using.

My life took a different direction and I went into the Human Services field. Eventually I was layed off from my job. In researching what my next step would be I learned about formulating bath and body products as I researched how to make Soy Waxed Candles.

So here I am full circle. With my knowledge of hair and my new knowledge of ingredients I am fully engaged in the development of my Mo' Hair Product Line. I do not include any petroleum, mineral oil, or paraffin wax ingredients into the formulation of my products.

I formulate with a targeted purpose in mind. I don't simply toss a bunch of random ingredients around. Each ingredient is used due to its specific properties. Just like God doesn't make junk neither do we at Heaven's Gift Just For You. The Mo' Hair Product Line is all about excellence. Try a product and know the difference Mo' Hair will make in your hair.

Rovenea (Robbin ) Turner

The reason Coconut Oil is used on the Mo' Hair Products

Why I use Coconut Oil in all my Mo' Hair Products.

Rele AS, Mohile RB.

Research and Development Department, Nature Care Division, Marico Industries Ltd., Mumbai, India.

Previously published results showed that both in vitro and in vivo coconut oil (CNO) treatments prevented combing damage of various hair types. Using the same methodology, an attempt was made to study the properties of mineral oil and sunflower oil on hair. Mineral oil (MO) was selected because it is extensively used in hair oil formulations in India, because it is non-greasy in nature, and because it is cheaper than vegetable oils like coconut and sunflower oils. The study was extended to sunflower oil (SFO) because it is the second most utilized base oil in the hair oil industry on account of its non-freezing property and its odorlessness at ambient temperature. As the aim was to cover different treatments, and the effect of these treatments on various hair types using the above oils, the number of experiments to be conducted was a very high number and a technique termed as the Taguchi Design of Experimentation was used. The findings clearly indicate the strong impact that coconut oil application has to hair as compared to application of both sunflower and mineral oils. Among three oils, coconut oil was the only oil found to reduce the protein loss remarkably for both undamaged and damaged hair when used as a pre-wash and post-wash grooming product. Both sunflower and mineral oils do not help at all in reducing the protein loss from hair. This difference in results could arise from the composition of each of these oils. Coconut oil, being a triglyceride of lauric acid (principal fatty acid), has a high affinity for hair proteins and, because of its low molecular weight and straight linear chain, is able to penetrate inside the hair shaft. Mineral oil, being a hydrocarbon, has no affinity for proteins and therefore is not able to penetrate and yield better results. In the case of sunflower oil, although it is a triglyceride of linoleic acid, because of its bulky structure due to the presence of double bonds, it does not penetrate the fiber, consequently resulting in no favorable impact on protein loss.

PMID: 12715094 [PubMed - indexed for MEDLINE]

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/12715094

J Cosmet Sci. 2001 May-Jun;52(3):169-84.

Secondary ion mass spectrometric investigation of penetration of coconut and mineral oils into human hair fibers: relevance to hair damage.

Ruetsch SB, Kamath YK, Rele AS, Mohile RB.

TRI/Princeton, Princeton, NJ 08540, USA.

An attempt has been made to show the difference in the penetrability of coconut oil and mineral oil in human hair. We have used secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS) in combination with a time-of-flight (TOF) mass spectrometer. Characteristic ions formed by the pure components when bombarded with gallium ions have been identified with their m/z values. The distribution of the ion, characteristic of the particular treatment, has been established in the cross sections of hair treated with coconut and mineral oils. The results show that coconut oil penetrates the hair shaft while mineral oil does not. The difference may be due to the polarity of the coconut oil compared to the nonpolar nature of the mineral oil. The affinity of the penetrant to the protein seems to be the cause for this difference in their behavior. This study also indicates that the swelling of hair is limited by the presence oil. Since the process of swelling and deswelling of hair is one of the causes of hair damage by hygral fatigue, coconut oil, which is a better penetrant than mineral oil, may provide better protection from damage by hygral fatigue.

PMID: 11413497 [PubMed - indexed for MEDLINE]

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11413497? .
