I know I am supposed to talk about Amla Oil and I haven't forgot. While I was preparing to write this my mind diverted to thoughts about Hair and the the different kinds of hair. From 1 to 4b. That is right.... from naturally straight to excessively kinky.
In beauty school we are taught hair is hair and after 26 years I remain of the mind hair is not hair but it is kissing cousins. What had me thinking about hair today is the on going debate between the natural hair wearers and the relaxed hair wearers.
The diversity of hair within the community of women of color is vast and not a new thing. We have been whipped by the critique of our hair since we were forced on these shores, along with being color struck, these mindsets remain in our communities.
just like the hues of our skin we have different kinds of hair. No one kind is better than the next.
I am so tired of the natural hair wearers thinking they are better than the relax hair wearers and visa versa. Clean healthy hair is what is best. We need to celebrate the diversity of our hair. It is nothing we can do to hair to make it look like naturally straight hair. Take a close look and know the truth. All of the relaxers, flat irons, or straightening combs cannot obtain the texture or feel of naturally straight hair. Therefore, embrace the uniqueness of our hair. Braiding, twisting, or natural hair do's are an alternative and that means just that ...another choice in the myriad of hair styles we can choose from.
This subject is huge and this is a brief reflection of my thoughts. It is also my aim to formulate products that embrace the full spectrum of hair types.
Look for the information on Amla Oil tomorrow.
Peace,
Rovenea (Robbin) Turner
